Group, with help from the St Lucy’s Group. Traidcraft goods to the value of £371 were sold, and donations totalled over £60. Many thanks to all who helped on the day, and to those who kindly provided home baking.
The format was much the same as the event we hosted in November 2003, with a wide variety of Traidcraft goods on sale, lots of home baking, tea & coffee, and an array of free fair trade tasters such as chocolate and biscuits.

PHILIPPINES

As you may have read in the press over the past two or three years, children in the Philippines are subjected to horrific abuse within the prison system. St Lucy’s J & P group responded to an article in the Catholic press from Fr Shay Cullen with a letter from one of the group members to a member of the Philippines senate. We received a very prompt reply from the senator.

Fair Trade Locally

Local supermarkets stock a variety of fairly traded goods, such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruit and chocolate, but keep your eyes open for additions to their stock The more of these products we buy, the greater will be the variety stocked by supermarkets. They may be slightly more expensive, but look at this as part of your contribution towards helping producers in developing countries, and in creating a fairer world.

The date of the next group meeting is Tuesday 17 March 2009 at 8pm in the presbytery. All welcome
